Materials

dish soapwaterlarge mixing bowlplastic strainer or colandersmall water balloonsplastic spoonstowelsfood coloring (optional)

Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Mix 1 part dish soap with 3 parts water in the bowl, add a drop of food coloring if desired
  2. 2Step 2: Dip the strainer face-down into the bubble solution, then lift straight up to create a dome of connected bubbles on top
  3. 3Step 3: Gently blow on the bubble dome to release dozens of bubbles that float like a 'castle in the air'
  4. 4Step 4: Fill small water balloons (just tennis ball sized for little hands) and show your child how to use a plastic spoon as a catapult
  5. 5Step 5: Place the water balloon on the spoon, pull back, and launch at the floating bubble castles
  6. 6Step 6: Count how many bubbles they can pop with one balloon, then create bigger bubble castles for the next round
  7. 7Step 7: Let them experiment with different spoon angles and balloon sizes to become the ultimate bubble castle destroyer

Parent tip: Make the bubble solution extra soapy for stronger bubbles that last longer in the air, and have your child help mix the solution to practice measuring and following directions
