Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Cut aluminum foil into 6-inch squares and tape each to a cardboard backing to make signal mirrors
  2. 2Step 2: Create a treasure map of your yard, marking 5 hiding spots with X's and numbering them
  3. 3Step 3: Hide small treasures at each marked location along with a foil signal mirror
  4. 4Step 4: Stand at your 'home base' and use your master signal mirror to catch sunlight and flash signals toward location #1
  5. 5Step 5: Run to that spot, find the hidden treasure and mirror, then use that mirror to signal back to home base
  6. 6Step 6: From location #1, signal toward location #2, creating a chain of light messages across the yard
  7. 7Step 7: Continue the expedition, using each mirror to communicate with the next station while collecting treasures
  8. 8Step 8: Time yourself completing the entire signal chain and treasure hunt, then try to beat your record

Parent tip: Position mirrors at slightly different angles to catch the best sunlight, and have your child practice the signaling technique before starting the treasure hunt for smoother gameplay
